Ian McCausland

"We'd all admired album covers and records by the Beatles and that,
but it wasn't until Ian McCausland started doing them here that I realized
just how important covers were."
- Ian "Molly" Meldrum

Artist and cartoonist Ian McCausland produced some of the most recognisable Australian commercial graphics of the '70s. He is justly renowned for the many iconic album covers he created for groups like Spectrum, Daddy Cool, Chain, Carson and Blackfeather, and Ian was as important to Australian rock as artists like Roger Dean were to the British scene.

Ian's first break came when he won a cartoon competition run by Go-Set magazine. He began drawing cartoons for Go-Set and before long he had been appointed the paper's Art Director.

The Go-Set connection brought him into contact with the core of the booming Melbourne music scene
